Planning a new protected area for Quang Ninh

This project is conducted to collect data on wildlife and plant resource of several areas in Quang Ninh Province, near Vietnam-China border, to establish a new protected area there. It focused on finding rare and threatened species which are fit to the categories of a new protected area requirement.

In this project, at least 5 animal species (including mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and plants), which are listed in Vietnam Red Data Book (2007) at Vulnerable or higher, were found at the study site. The survey are continuing and we hope a new protected area would be help to connect a number of unprotected forest areas into one and improve the management of natural resource in Quang Ninh Province. Conservation status, particularly the impact of wildlife trading and Vietnam-China war on animals has been recording during the project implemention.
